The training starts with four online courses held between June and August. The exact dates will be determined with you, the enrolled trainees. Each course consists of live online classes, each culminating in an exam, which may be taken multiple times.
1. Principles of Flight and Spaceflight (6h)
In this course, you will learn the principles of fixed-wing aeroplane flight, with an emphasis on flight dynamics and aerobatics, and the basics of spaceflight dynamics and technology.
-
01. History and Principles of Flight and Spaceflight
-
02. Flight Physics: Aerodynamics and Phases
-
03. Aircraft and Space Manoeuvres
-
04. High-G and Low-G
-
05. Spaceflight dynamics and phases
-
06. Spaceflight systems and technology

2. Expeditions and Survival (6h)
In this course, you will learn about expedition planning and navigation, basic survival techniques including shelter building, food foraging, signalling and rescue, as well as team dynamics and leadership.
-
01. General Expedition Planning and Preparation
-
02. Navigation and Orientation
-
03. Shelter Building and Environmental Survival Techniques
-
04. Food Foraging and Water Sourcing
-
05. Gear Preparation, Emergency First Aid and Signalling
-
06. Team Dynamics, Resilience and Leadership

3. Risk Assessment and Risk Mitigation (4h)
In this course, you will learn how to conduct a risk assessment, devise management and mitigation techniques, with direct application to the upcoming on-site training.
-
01. Risk as a Concept, Risk Management and Identification

02. Risk Assessment, Risk Response Planning, Risk Monitoring and Controlling

4. Team Skills and Optimising Performance in Space (4h group + 1h individual)
During the group sessions, you will learn about the effects of spaceflight on the human brain and body, and how to protect against these. You will become familiar with the most common types of errors and biases that affect human performance and how to minimise their impact. You will also be introduced to the skills required for optimal wellbeing and successful team operations in space. This course sets the foundations for on-site learning and activities.

On-site training

On-site training will take place in Burgos (Spain) from September 21 to September 28 and will include:
-
An aerobatic session aboard a Super Saeta HA-220 (property of the Real Aeroclub de España) to experience high gravity up to 4g;
-
An overnight survival training, simulating the aftermath of an astronaut crew crash-landing in an isolated forest area;
-
Theoretical and practical sessions of risk assessment, team skills, and group psychology;
-
A simulated EVA, with following collection and growth of biological samples.

Registration Conditions

The registrations will be “first-come-first-served”. However, we reserve the right to subsequently reconsider individual registrations if critical health aspects or alike do not permit participation.
